What To Expect - City of David Tour Jerusalem

Join our City of David Tour Jerusalem and discover the ancient heart of biblical Jerusalem. This powerful one-day tour takes you beneath the modern city and into the place where Jerusalem began, from the days of King David to the time of Jesus and the Second Temple period.

We begin with a panoramic view of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives or Mount Scopus, looking over the Old City, the Temple Mount, the Kidron Valley, and the ancient landscape surrounding Jerusalem. From there, we continue to the area near the Dung Gate and enter the City of David, the original core of ancient Jerusalem.

Inside the City of David, we will look over the Kidron Valley, the Mount of Olives, and ancient burial caves from the First Temple period. We will explore why King David chose this location as the capital of his kingdom and how Jerusalem’s natural landscape shaped its history.

The tour continues through some of the most fascinating archaeological remains in the City of David, including a monumental structure many identify with King David’s palace, an impressive Proto-Aeolic capital, and remains of a typical four-room house from the First Temple period. We then visit the ancient water system and the Gihon Spring, the main water source of ancient Jerusalem.

From there, we walk through the dry tunnel route to the Pool of Siloam, known from the New Testament story of Jesus healing the man born blind. We then continue along the ancient Pilgrimage Road, the stone-paved street that connected the Pool of Siloam with the Temple Mount during the Second Temple period.

After experiencing the Pilgrimage Road, we continue to the Jewish Quarter for a lunch break. The day ends on Mount Zion with a visit to King David’s Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper.
