What To Expect

This Safed, Tiberias and Mount Maron Tour begins with a drive up Israel’s Mediterranean coast before turning towards the Plain of Armageddon; from here Megiddo is visible in the distance. The tour’s first stop is in Tiberias. This modern Galilee city has ancient roots and was originally founded by Herod in the 1st century.
Tiberias is one of Israel’s four holy cities and was a center for Jewish study during the Mishnah and Talmudic periods. On the Tiberias tour we spend time at the graves of two famed Jewish sages – Rabbi Baal HaNes and Rabbi Meir. The tour takes you to Rambam’s tomb; also known as Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon or Maimonides (1135-1204). Rambam penned the 14 books of the Mishnah and is one of Judaism’s greatest sages.
The Jewish Galilee tour continues to Safed, another of Israel’s four holy cities built on a hill top surrounded by glorious countryside. Our tour takes us through the Old City of Safed, down narrow stone-paved lanes to the Ari HaKadosh Synagogue. This synagogue was built on the spot where the “Ari” (Rabbi Isaac ben Solomon Luria Ashkenazi) would take his students each Friday evening to watch the sun setting over the hills of Safed. It is also where Eliyahu would reveal himself to the Ari. While here we visit the Luria Visitor Center to learn more about Safed. The tour takes you to the Artists’ Quarter where there are studio and galleries displaying works inspired by Safed’s spirituality.
From Safed we drive to Mt. Meron, site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai or Rashbi’s burial tomb. Rashbi penned the Zohar, the Jewish book of mystical Kabbalah. Each Lag B’Omer on Mt. Meron there are huge celebrations with bonfires, dancing and singing celebrating Rashbi. It is also traditional for the religious to bring their three year old sons to Mt. Meron on Lag B’Omer for their first haircut. This Jewish Galilee tour comes to an end and we take our return journey south.
