From the pick-up points in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the tour takes you within the ancient walls of Jerusalem's Old City. Enjoy a guided walking tour along the stone-paved lanes flanked by ancient buildings, churches and synagogues. In the Jewish Quarter see the excavated Byzantine Cardo, once the main colonnaded street running through the city. Also, stop at the Western Wall. This is the only remaining part of the sacred Jewish Temple that stood on Temple Mount until 70AD. Here Jews gather from around the world to pray and to place prayer notes between the massive stones of the wall. The tour continues into the Christian Quarter where you can learn of the route Jesus took along the Via Dolorosa as he made his way to Calvary (Golgotha) and his crucifixion. This route leads to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, a massive 4th-century edifice erected to encompass the site of Christ's crucifixion and his burial tomb. Before leaving the Old City we take a walk through the Muslim Quarter's colorful market.
Next, the tour takes you to Bethlehem, described in the New Testament as the City of David. On route to Bethlehem, we pass the site where Jesus set his parable of the Good Samaritan. Arriving in Bethlehem's Manger Square we see the Basilica of the Nativity. Since the 2nd century, Christians have believed that this was the site of Christ's birth and in 333AD the church was erected to protect the Holy Grotto nativity site.
Leaving Bethlehem, the tour continues south through the steep hills of the Judean Desert leading down below sea level to the lowest point on Earth. The rest of the day is spent on one of the Dead Sea's best beaches where you can enjoy the incredible health and wellbeing benefits of the Dead Sea environment. Be sure to take one of those classic shots floating in the salty water reading a newspaper! At the end of the tour, you will be returned to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.
