What To Expect - Bethlehem, Jericho and Jordan River Tour

This tour starts when travelers are picked up in Tel Aviv and in Jerusalem. From there the tour proceeds to Bethlehem where a local guide will take you to one of the city's artisanal stores. Here traditional arts and crafts are made and sold, many with a Christian or nativity scene. You'll have time for a short tea or coffee break and to see a brief presentation about the local cottage industries. The tour continues from there, perhaps, time permitting passing the Banksy Walled-Off-Hotel famed for its murals inspired by social and political issues. Arriving at the Church of the Nativity you'll get to see where Jesus was born on the first Christmas Eve and learn about this beautiful 4th-century church. Then we take a brief walk through the streets of Bethlehem stopping at the Milk Grotto, the Biblical location where Mary nursed Jesus as the Holy Family hid before fleeing into Egypt escaping Herod's edict to kill all male infants.
The tour leaves Bethlehem and takes you through the desert landscape descending below sea level towards Jericho in the Dead Sea region. We take a cable car ride up the steep slopes of Mount of Temptation that overlooks Jericho. This is said to be where the Devil tried to tempt Jesus and to mark this Biblical event the Mt. of Temptations Monastery was built on the slopes of the mount 350m above sea level. You'll get a tour of the monastery and a chance to stop at the Temptation Gallery where locally produced dried fruits, olive oil, dates, halva and Holy Land souvenirs can be purchased.
The tour continues to the Jordan River and a site known as Qasr al-Yahud where it is believed that John baptized Jesus. This traditional baptismal site has been made accessible to Christian visitors and has retained its natural beauty and spiritual atmosphere. At the end of the tour, you'll be returned to Tel Aviv or to Jerusalem.
