What To Expect

This 1-day tour starts at 7:30 am when you are picked up at your Eilat hotel and taken to the nearby Arava border crossing between Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan. Our representative will handle the border procedure as you enter Jordan. From the Israeli/Jordanian border, it is approximately a two-hour drive through the rugged desert to Petra traveling in air-conditioned transportation. As the morning sun casts golden-hued shadows on the sand and desert mountains.
On reaching Petra your tour begins as you enter the ancient Nabataean capital through the Siq, a long dramatic narrow gorge flanked by tall cliffs. Over 2,000 years ago merchants, travelers, and caravans entered Petra in the same way as they journeyed along the ancient trade routes from Arabia to the north. The Nabataeans thrived in their desert city by inventing an ingenious water-gathering system and building their unique structures from the rock mountains. You will have a guided tour of Petra’s highlights and see the intricately decorated facades chiseled out of the rock cliffs. See a colonnaded street; pass the amphitheater; ancient tombs and cavernous chambers.
After the guided tour there will be time to explore Petra on your own before regrouping and enjoying lunch in an authentic local eatery. After lunch, the tour makes the return trip back to Israel. Time allowing there may be a short panoramic tour of Aqaba, Jordan’s Red Sea city before you are taken across the border and returned to your Eilat hotel.
