Travelers Reviews

What To Expect

This Jerusalem tour starts as we take in the view of Jerusalem’s skyline with steeples, domes, minarets and buildings constructed of honey-colored Jerusalem stone. You can look beyond the Old City walls to Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock. Traveling through the Kidron Valley the tour passes ancient Jewish tombs, the Mt. of Olives and Church of All Nations. The Jerusalem tour stops at Mt. Zion to visit the Room of the Last Supper (Cenacle) where Jesus dined with his disciples on the eve of his crucifixion. We see the Cenacle’s Ottoman-era mihrab (prayer niche) and stained glass windows bearing Arabic inscriptions, remnants of a time when the room was used as a mosque. The Cenacle or Upper Room is above the Tomb of King David. This site is sacred to Muslims, Christians and Jews.
Leaving the Tomb of David we pass the Dormition Abbey and enter the Old City through the Zion Gate. We pass the Byzantine Cardo, once the city’s main street. We see the Western Wall which is the only surviving part of the Second Holy Temple (516BC-70AD) that stood on Temple Mount and the most sacred Jewish site that exists. The tour follows the route of the Via Dolorosa where Christ walked from his judgment to his crucifixion bearing his cross. 14 Stations of the Cross mark where significant events occurred along the Via Dolorosa and the final stations are all within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Sepulchre is a massive 4th-century church and the most sacred Christian site in the world. It encompasses Calvary where Jesus was crucified and the burial tomb where Jesus was laid to rest. The Sepulchre is shared by several Christian denominations each with its own altars and chapel. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre tour shows you the highlights of this iconic church which has over 30 chapels including the Syrian Orthodox Chapel; the Church of St Helen and the Chapel of Adam. See the Stone of Anointing where Jesus’ body was prepared for burial and the burial chamber or sepulcher that stands at the center of a large rotund.
