A detailed description of the tour
Nothing could be more magical than celebrating Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, the place of Jesus' birth. This tour brings you to the actual location where the nativity took place and where today you can see Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. But first a brief tour of Jerusalem, City of Gold.
The tour begins with a panoramic view across Jerusalem from the Mt. of Olives. It was here that Jesus spent his final moments before being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. We drive down from the Mount of Olives passed the Garden of Gethsemane and through the Kidron Valley around the Old City walls.
We enter the Old City and take a short walk to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This exquisite church is built on the site where Jesus was crucified and later laid to rest. On leaving the Old City we get an overview of the new city of Jerusalem as we driver passed several major sites including the Israeli parliament building (Knesset), the Israel Museum and the Valley of the Cross where there is an 11th century monastery.
We drive through the Palestinian/Israeli border, with your guide taking care of all the bureaucratic details and on towards Bethlehem. From the Hill of Evil Counsel we get a view across the city which sparkles with lights. Now you are approaching Bethlehem as Mary and Joseph did on this night 2000 years ago.
We enter Bethlehem and can enjoy the beautiful Christmas decorations which adorn the streets and store fronts. We make a brief stop at a Bethlehem souvenir shop for light refreshments (included) then continue on to Manger Square. Here we are treated to a delicious festive dinner on the edge of Manger Square across from the Church of the Nativity. It might be possible to enter the church for mass. As midnight approaches we can watch the developing events taking place inside the Church of the Nativity on large outdoor screens on Manger Square. We watch Midnight Mass together with Christians from around the world in an atmosphere of peace and good will to all. Then the tour returns you safely to your hotel in Israel.
