Descend nearly 4000 feet (1200metres) through the Judean desert to the Dead Sea. Enjoy a memorable dip in its salty, buoyant and healing waters and purchase the famous Ahava natural cosmetics. Ascend Masada, built by Herod, defended by the Jewish Zealots and captured by the Romans after a three year siege. Finally stop at Qumran, perhaps home of the Essenes, and see where many of the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
Pass ancient Jericho, conquered by Joshua as he entered the Promised Land, and continue northwards along the Jordan valley to the magnificent excavation at Beit Shean where King Saul was lost his life while fighting the Philistines. Finally stop at Yardenit where many pilgrims are baptized in the Jordan River.
Instead of visiting Beit Shean, it would be possible to visit the Church of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor.
